What’s that sound….?
…Is what we were thinking by the end of last week. Luckily it turned out to be the sound of chicks hatching!
We also had a lot more happen last week at The Askefield Project…
On Monday we started the week with Chris and Boyd busy in the shed, putting all of the conduit around the new shed so that it could soon be wired up. It’s very nearly ready now!
Tuesday started in its normal fashion with the Puddlers returning for a morning of fun, animal feeding, painting, and water play. Once everything had been tidied away (and after the outdoor paint board had been pressure washed) it was time to set up for the Men’s Shed where lots of work was getting done. We also had some excitement in the Toolshed as Chris finished the Jigsaw table he was making for his daughter. With its felt top, fold down legs and draws for the pieces, it looked brilliant and it’s safe to say he’s done an excellent job!
Then it was Wednesday, our Care Farm Day, and there was a big list of jobs to get done. After the animals had been fed, it was time to get the roof and sides back on the long tent, which went on easily enough despite the fiddly job of getting the bungee cords on (or boingers if you have been here regularly). Once the tent was up, it was time for a spot of lunch before the next job. Wednesday afternoon was a bit more focussed on sorting, with the tool bench being emptied and moved into the barn before the tools (now in labelled boxes) were able to go back in. It’s really looking like a workshop in the new shed!
Thursday saw the Year 5s and 6s returning for the Friskney Farm School with a successful and well organised fire drill to start the day. For the rest of the day, the Year 5s and 6s were looking at genetics through chickens before learning about the different kinds of feathers and their uses. Elsewhere on the farm, Chris and Ula were running wires through the conduit in the shed. It took some time and some clever application of a Bic pen lid but it was all done by the end of the day!
Finally, it was Friday and time for Challenge Askefield! Last week the challenge was to make jewellery, using wire, 1mm elastic and crystals! There were also some interesting sounds coming from the reception on Friday, which turned out to be coming from the eggs in the incubator and before we knew it, we had 13 new chicks!
What a way to end the week!
