Even Bigger Jenga?
But before we get to that, we have had another full-on last week at The Askefield Project!!
On Monday, Chris and Boyd were working on getting the base for the new log cabin down. They started by getting the layer of sand into the hole Graham had made the Friday before. Then it was time to get the mesh and membrane down so that they could start adding the gravel. It was a long day of hard work but by the end the gravel was down, and the base had taken shape.
Tuesday started as normal, with the Puddlers Toddler group bringing some excitement to the Farm. Last week they were animal feeding, painting, using the water play equipment and riding on the pedal tractors, what better way to spend a Tuesday morning! After all of the paint had been pressure washed away, it was time to get set up for the Toolshed. Last week Frances and Denise were back working on their projects, with Chris helping Frances to make and trial fit the slats for the top of her pergola!
Then it was Wednesday and our Care Farm Day! Lots got done during the day with the clients firstly helping to finish the log cabin base by adding turf around the edges and some more gravel to fill the gaps. Next it was time to plant some lime trees near the donkey field which went well and to finish the jobs list, Chris broke out the chainsaw and began cutting the sleepers into thirds that almost resemble Jenga blocks (unfortunately they are not being used for ‘even more giant’ Jenga.
Thursday saw the return of the Early Years, Year 1s and 2s for Farm School where they were learning about wheels and axles (with junk modelling and Chris excellent truck parking to show axle articulation) with some mermaid and pirate fun for the Early Years. In the afternoon, the younger children had a go at creating a 3D map of the farm and the older children were making fidget spinners and catapults, as part of their mechanism’s topic.
Then it was time for Challenge Askefield on Friday morning, where everyone was getting stuck into some diamond art. To finish the week, we had the first new format Farm Club on Saturday, which was really good fun. It was great to see everyone back on the farm!!
Despite being busy, it was another excellent week at The Askefield Project!
