Spot the difference…

It was eventful last week at The Askefield Project…

To start the week, we had CPSL Mind back at the farm to deliver their second Stop Suicide Training Course, where we were joined by members of the HM Coastguard Skegness team.

Unfortunately, on Monday we did lose one of our ewes after she began to lamb early.

Tuesday started as usual with the last Puddlers Toddler group session before Lambing and after the animal feeding, they had loads of exciting Bee themed activities to enjoy in the sun! After a great morning, it was time to set up for the Toolshed! It was a productive afternoon, with Chris and Frances doing a trial build of the pergola (upside down so that they were not working 8ft up in the air), Denise was using the table saw to make all of the planks for a planter a uniform width and Maggie started work on making a medal box.

On to Wednesday, it was our Care Farm Day and there was a lot to get done! The big job of the day was to get the barn cleared and ready for the lambing, which meant the morning was spent working as a team to move everything (including the stage and sofas) out of the barn. Once the barn was empty, lunch was eaten and brews were finished, it was time to start the next stage of barn sorting which was to rebuild the hay racks (as the plywood sides had almost fallen to pieces). After that it was time for the final job, which was to set up all of the pens in the barn and draw a map of the layout so that the Year 3 and 4s coming to the farm on Thursday could set the barn up properly. It was quite a busy day, with some great hard work from our clients!

Thursday was the next Friskney Farm School Day, with the Year 3 and 4s coming to The Askefield Project. Last week, as you may have guessed, they were setting up the barn for the sheep in the morning before an exciting team game in the garden hunting for coloured string and some gardening in the afternoon.

It was then Friday and time for Challenge Askefield! Last week we were candle painting, which took a minute to get to grips with but the results were excellent, there were some really creative candles by the end of the morning.

The week did not stop there as it was good enough weather on Saturday to start building the second log cabin!! By the end of the day the frame was up, the roof structure was on and everything had gone rather well (apart from the phone falling over during the timelapse).

Another busy but successful week at The Askefield Project!
