July

Once again it has been another incredibly busy month...

(hence the lack of blog posts)

Anyway, here are the highlights from our July:

To start the month, we were busy with a very important farm job, baling!! It’s safe to say it wasn't the easiest job this year as the baler spent most of the first day not making bales as there was an issue with the knotters. After a lot of work, Joel and Chris managed to get it working (for a short stretch) and we did end up with some hay in the barn. A few days later (after an evening of fixing and a new part), we were baling again, and we managed to get all the hay into the barn! We were definitely looking forward to a pint or cold drink at...

...our next Kerry Hill pop-up pub night!! It was a great evening with some lovely weather and another great pub quiz.

It was then time for our first FAMILY FUN DAY of 2025, and, we had all manner of exciting activities including caterpillar racing, splat monsters, straw bubbles and (the staple of the Family Fun Days, bottle rockets! We even had an extra bottle rocket flight at the end of the day to launch a My Little Pony!

In the next week, there was some exciting developments in the Toolshed! The primary one was the start of prototyping for the Lancaster Bomber fuselage. At the end of the week, everything in the barn was tidied away and it was time to set up for our next Comedy Night, which was a hilarious evening with some very good comics, Jim did it again!! We have got one more Comedy Night in the calendar and we would recommend getting your tickets. To finish that week, we then had our second Family Fun Day, which also finished with some additional action-camera bottle rocket launches (the footage was excellent and all on our social media platforms).

For the first three weeks of July, we also had the last (for this academic year) Farm School Day for each year group where the parents could attend in the afternoon and join in with an exciting scavenger hunt around the farm!

In the rest of July, we got a number of jobs done around the farm including some fencing by the feed store, ready for some new arrivals! We also had a visit from Morgan during July to come shear the sheep and we got a few nice fleeces out of it.

Unfortunately, after the last Puddlers before the summer holidays, the tractor seat gave up after 10 years of service. Fortunately, Chris was able to fashion a new one out of the single oddly coloured blue plastic chair, which should hopefully last for at least another 10!

And that was July at The Askefield Project!
