Askefield Double Bill (y)

Another Askefield Project Double Bill!

It has definitely been a busy few weeks...

Week beginning 9th June:

The week started as normal with the Puddlers on the farm; feeding the animals and enjoying playing outside in the lovely weather. We also had quite a few first-time attendees! What a great way to start a Tuesday! In the afternoon, it was time for the barn to become the Men’s shed again and everyone was working hard on their projects.

Wednesday was our Care Farm Day, and the big job of the day was to repair the fences around one of the donkey fields as it was not in the best state. After a solid day's work in the heat, the fence was back in an almost donkey proof condition with only the other field left on the jobs list to be sorted.

On Thursday we had the Year 5s and 6s back for the Friskney Farm School where they were learning about the Egyptians and hieroglyphics, making art using photopaper and sun printing, and carrying out an experiment to investigate the colours that the animals prefer. It turned out that they all favoured yellow, which might have something to do with all the food buckets being yellow!

It was then Friday and time for Challenge Askefield! This week it was very hot, so it was back in the barn for the crafting and the challenge this time was to make summery bead bracelets (or anklets)! There were some really pretty ones made. On Friday afternoon we had Edan Lincs come to the farm to deliver their Self-Esteem Wellness and Empowerment session. Friday afternoon also saw Chris and Nick replacing the front fence of the donkey field (posts and all) and it looks great and sturdy again.

To finish this week, we had Farm Club on Saturday! It was a really nice day with lots of excitement in the warm weather, making clay hearts in the log cabin and even a water fight!

Week beginning 16th June:

This week started slightly different to the last with a big job underway on Monday, the reception double doors were being replaced with some purchased from Facebook Marketplace (#upcycling)! Boyd spent the day getting them fitted and they look great now they're in!

It was then Tuesday which meant it was time for Puddlers and Toolshed! This week in the Toolshed there was lots going on with Carol working on developing the plan for the Lancaster bomber and testing the materials for the structure, Denise was working on her planter, Maggie was working on her medal box, and we had two new attendees from the Boston Dancing Witches! Billy (the goat) also decided to come and pay a visit to the Toolshedders!

Wednesday was our Care Farm Day as usual and it was definitely a busy day, with the lawn mower being taken to Wainfleet for repair, the clients helping to clear the corner of the car park and move all of the wood round to the bonfire, as well as fixing the last few parts of the donkey field fence. It was soon Wednesday evening, which meant it was time for Youth Club! It was great night for it with the weather holding nice and warm, which meant lots of games outside as well as crafting and some more work getting done on the Gravity Racer.

It was then time for our next Friskney Farm School Day, this time it was the turn of the Year 3 and 4s. The day started as normal with animal feeding and poo picking before moving on to some Ancient Greek based activities to support their classroom learning. The day then became more STEM focussed with the class being split into groups and making potato clocks and watching a video to explain how and why they work. It was a really interesting day!

We then finished the week on Friday with another Challenge Askefield session where everyone was making coffee filter flowers!

We also can’t forget to mention that there has been lots going on in the garden and polytunnel over the last two weeks. Liz and John have been working hard to keep everything looking good as well as making nets to cover the brassica bed, picking fresh produce for Soul Foods Cafe in Alford, replanting the wheelbarrows near the entrance (which look great with some colour in them again), and lots of watering!

As you know we are closed this week for a family wedding, but we hope you all have an excellent week and look forward to seeing you all back on the farm again next week!
