Rain, Wind or Shine
We had all of the above last week, which meant that there was blue sky but plenty of puddles for the return of the Puddlers Toddler Group last Tuesday!!
But before that…
On Monday Chris and Boyd were back working on the shed, putting more of the panelling up on the inside and replacing some of the screws, a riveting job (get it?). It’s getting there now, with just some interior jobs left to do.
Tuesday was an exciting day as it was the first Puddlers of 2025!! It was great to see them back on the farm and to see some new faces! The morning started with the animal feeding, where the Puddlers got to meet the miniature donkeys for the first time (who were all being very friendly and letting everyone stroke them). After hands were washed, it was time for some messy play and some interesting activities including outdoor painting, building bug houses, pouring and scooping sensory activities, playing on the pedal tractors and exploring what the rain had left (Puddlers being true to its name). In the afternoon, Chris was cracking on and finished panelling the inside of the shed’s roof.
Wednesday was our Care Farm Day and after the animals were fed and poo had been picked, it was back into the shed! This time everyone was working to get the flooring down which was nearly completed by the end of the day except for one small sliver along the back. It’s looking really good now, just the ramp to go. In the afternoon, we also had a rather large delivery from Travis Perkins containing the materials for the log cabin base! To add to the fun of our Wednesday, we were all having a good laugh in the office at Alexa’s expansive range of fart noises!
The farm was busy again on Thursday with the Farm School back after half-term. It was another visit for the Year 5s and 6s last week and they were investigating evolution and Darwin’s finches as well as the origins of miniature donkeys! We also had some EGG-citement with everyone getting to write their name on an egg that’s going in the incubator!
Then on Friday, we had our next Challenge Askefield. Last week we were making fold over animal handbag charms using faux suede, lobster clasp rings, scissors, and embroidery thread. There were all kinds of animals made!
Another great week at The Askefield Project!
