Planes, Cranes and Automobiles
Well, technically just the one crane but nevertheless…
It was another interesting week at The Askefield Project…
The excitement started on Tuesday as Mark Pocklington reversed his crane lorry through the gates. One of the big jobs on the list recently has been getting ready to build the new shed, which has meant the ground needed to be cleared and levelled, as well as the container needing to be rotated ninety degrees (hence the arrival of the crane lorry). Back to the story, the container was then hooked up and the lifting began, which went very smoothly. Next it was a rush to lay a few wheelbarrows full of hardcore to make sure the base was level for the container to come back down. A few concrete slabs, a check with the spirit level and an expertly executed reverse manoeuvre later, the container was back on the ground in its new place. A job well done!
Wednesday was our Care Farm Day as usual and during the animal feeding it was discovered that the chickens had laid many eggs (which sounds better in the voice of an old Top Gear presenter turned farmer), we are well and truly inundated with them at the moment. After the first brew of the day, the big job for the day was to get everything organised in the barn before moving it back into the container.
On Thursday we had our 4th week of the Friskney Farm School, which meant it was the year 5 and 6 class’ second visit. They had a full range of activities during the day, including: feeding the animals, singing the poo song, completing a scavenger hunt and making animals with what they collected and explaining their characteristics and adaptations. After a short time outdoors again, they finished the day by making sheep out of clay and wire.
It was then Friday, which meant it was Challenge Askefield! For craft number two of 2025, we were making air fresheners using felt shapes, beads and aromatherapy oils, which created a very pleasant atmosphere in the log cabin!
Another great week at The Askefield Project!
