Pink Pig, Fairy Houses and Miniature Donkeys
No, it’s not a new children’s book, it’s a nice summary of the last week at The Askefield Project…
To the start of the week, Hannah and Sharon took a trip to just outside of Scunthorpe for LRSN’s next Women in Wellies event. This time The Pink Pig Farm were hosting the event and gave a tour, explained what they do and how they started. It was great to see an example of farms diversifying in Lincolnshire.
On Wednesday at precisely 10:44AM, we had some important new guests arrive…
… 3 miniature donkeys called Daisy, Dixie and Annie, who were all very well behaved whilst being walked to their new home and seemed to settle in quite quickly. The neighbours (Boris and Rory) may have taken slightly longer to warm to the new arrivals, hence the excellent picture of the week.
Once the miniature donkeys were settled in the field, the straw bales and feed had been moved and Rory’s posture had returned to normal, Chris, Dr Steve and the Care Farm Clients tackled the next big job on the list, cleaning out the Goat house. This was not the nicest smelling of jobs however thanks to the layer of sawdust; it was not a long job.
Thursday marked the 3rd week of the Friskney Farm School and the first visit of the youngest year. The first activity of the day was, of course, feeding the animals which they were very excited by. Over the rest of the day, they got to see the difference between the types of sheep, see the duck eggs get collected and getting to taste them in omelette form.
Before we knew it, it was Friday and that meant it was time for the first Challenge Askefield Craft morning of 2025. To start the year everyone was making fairy houses using coloured paper, buttons, craft wire, scissors, pens, glue, glitter, beads and card. It was great to see everyone back on the Farm and the fairy house came out brilliantly.
All in all, it was an excellent week!
