You’re only supposed to build the ****** doors right…
Unlike the Italian Job, we were putting doors up this week rather than taking them down, but before that…
On Monday, Boyd and Chris were back working on the Shed. The plan for the day was to get the walls up and screwed to the base before getting the roof structure in place. It was a successful day and the main bulk the shed was now up, on to the roof…
Tuesday was an interesting day with Hannah and Sharon attending another LRSN Women in Wellies Day, making chocolate with Rachael Green. The LRSN Women in Wellies project creates opportunities for women in farming, agriculture, and horticulture to come together, meet socially, and develop peer support relationships while also creating opportunities for LRSN to provide health and wellbeing support. If these sessions would be of interest to you then check out their upcoming events https://www.lrsn.co.uk/.
Back at the farm Chris and Boyd were putting the roof panels on the shed, which took some mechanical and percussion adjustment to the structure before the first panels could go on. After these sections were in place, the building continued smoothly and by late afternoon the roof was on and secure!
Wednesday was, you guessed it, another day working on the shed. The focus was to get the guttering on, make sure the walls were straight and secured into the base, and making sure the doors were hung correctly (as well as some other fiddly jobs). It was quite a busy day with adjusting the shed taking the most time. By the end of the day, it was all set and ready for the inner panels to go up, thank you to Steve Baird for helping. Also on Wednesday, Hannah was in Loughborough for a CEVAS training course.
On Thursday, we had our last Farm School Day before the February half-term and it was the second visit for the Early Years, Year 1 and 2. They had an exciting day feeding the animals, poo picking the field, learning about animal habitats and learning what they need to survive. In the afternoon, they also learnt how to charm worms to come up out of the ground and say hello!
Unfortunately at the end of the day, Chris had to bring Annie (one of our 11 year old ewes) into the barn as she was not looking well.
On Friday, we had another great Challenge Askefield coffee morning! This week the craft was to make some inventive keyrings which looked brilliant. However later in the day, we had a visit from the vet as Rory was not doing well.
It was certainly an eventful last week at The Askefield Project.
