Great drying weather…

It was a hot last week at The Askefield Project, and probably everywhere else (hence the title)!!

Our week started on Monday with a number of jobs getting done including Boyd trimming the new reception doors and Chris doing an animal feed run.

Tuesday was a busy day, with John and Liz working up in the garden area and the Toolshed open in the afternoon. In the garden, Liz and John were working hard to water all the plants, weed and pick the tomatoes, carrots, beetroot, cucumbers, beans and courgettes for SOUL FOODS (with a break to admire the massive dragonfly that was hovering around the pond)! Back at the barn, the Toolshed was open again for our Men’s shed; Chris, Ian and Terry were working to create a tail fin prototype for the Lancaster Bomber as well as troubleshooting the solar charger and trail camera that Terry had brought with him. Chris also managed to perfectly place the gazebo through the leg of a wheelbarrow whilst setting up for the Toolshed!

Wednesday was our Care Farm Day as usual, and it was set to be the hottest day of the week. This meant that once the animals were fed and the poo had been picked, it was time to start a job that we could do under the cover of the barn, building a new sheep shelter! After lots of hard work from everyone (and the roof had been retrieved from the nettles (by force (with the tractor))), the main structure was finished and looking brilliant, all it needed now was some cross braces, side panels and a roof! On Wednesday evening, we had our next Youth Club and luckily it had cooled down a little which was great for an evening of games and hide and seek! At the same time, Joel and Chris were in the new log cabin fixing the 3D model of the Gravity Racer and it’s now not far away from some of the mechanical work!!

Then it was Thursday, which is quiet without the Farm School, and it was another day of jobs. Chris was also continuing with building the sheep shelter and adding the cross braces, so that it is ready for when the lambs are split from the ewes into their own field.

To finish the week, we had Challenge Askefield on Friday morning! Last week the craft was an old farm club one but an interesting one nonetheless!!

We hope you had a good last week, and we hope to see you at The Askefield Project soon!!
