Bringing in the sheep, bringing in the sheep…

What do we do before we sleep?, We’re bringing in the sheep.

We were certainly counting sheep this week, although not falling asleep...

But before that…

Monday was quite a typical start to the week with Boyd and Chris carrying on with log cabin jobs, with the floor being the focus for the week.

The farm was quiet on Tuesday morning with no Puddlers, although the chicks were making up for it in the reception. Nevertheless, there was still a lot to do with the insulation and boarding going down in the new log cabin (with no tea stains on any of the pieces).

Wednesday was our Care Farm Day and Chris and our clients geared up to tackle one of the big farm jobs....... the top field gate post!!

After the animals had been fed, and a brew had been enjoyed, they collected the tools and headed up to the other side of the farm. The repair looked like it was going to take some time as the old post had snapped and was difficult to remove from the ground. Once the old post had been removed and the new hole had been made, it was time to put in the new post. Then it was time to hang the gate and after some adjusting, it swung into place perfectly. A job well done indeed and once lambing is finished the sheep will be on some lovely grass!

Then it was Thursday, which ended up being a very hectic day! This mainly due to a record number of lambs (for us) being delivered in a day, we had 8 new lambs! It started with Christie have two very small lambs in the morning and was followed by Cerys producing twins outside in the afternoon. Then in the evening, whilst there was a Skegness Community Orchestra meeting in the log cabin, first time mum Milka had a baby, and she took to it like a duck to water! Inspired by Milka, Paige decided to join in on the action however her first lamb was stuck with one foot back but an hour later she had been delivered successfully. Then it was the same thing with her second, except it had both legs back. After a few hours they were both doing fine and we were thinking it was all over, and then Milka decided to produce another one, our first proper black lamb!!!

After all of that excitement, it was time for Challenge Askefield on Friday morning! Last week we started our Easter crafts, and we had plenty of lolly sticks, glue, glue guns, bunny templates, string, felt, felt balls and other embellishments for everyone to get creative with. It was a good morning!

To finish our week, we had our first big event of 2025, our Lambing Open Day!! It was a great success and thank you to everyone who came, saw our lambs, got crafty, and had a go at our what 3 words trail! We hope you really enjoyed the day!

That concludes another busy and exciting week at The Askefield Project!
