February

Another month into 2026 and another good range of jobs ticked off the list, another interesting set of crafts and another massive wood delivery…

To start February, we had our first steering group meeting (of 2026) where some of regular attendees, volunteers or stakeholders were invited to voice their opinions on the Project and thoughts for the future. It was a really productive experience, and we have got some exciting things to get on with this year!

As it was still cold during February, only the Care Farm Day, Friskney Farm School and Challenge Askefield (out of our full set of regular projects) were running but there was still plenty of excitement around the farm. There were some amazing crafts going on in the log cabin at Challenge Askefield including: paracord handbag charms, paper flowers made from old sheet music, suncatchers from melted crayons and crocheted granny squares. The farm school had some great activities during February, with the highlight definitely being the parachute task. The task involved making a parachute for a conker that was then dropped by Chris who was up the scaffold (set up by our Care Farm Group the day before) and the Team whose conker reached the ground last won! February saw the first Youth Club session of 2026 and it was great to have everyone back on the farm for an evening of games, decorating canvas bags and Lego building.

We also had RSPB Boston Wildlife Explorers come to the farm to run a morning of activities which was excellent!

Around the farm, Gary was busy in the Square Foot Garden; weeding, digging out the beds and adding some new topsoil to get them ready for planting. As the month went out, he had some helpful from our Care Farm group and together they managed to clear it and get a huge amount of wood chippings (from our willow, which was a nice afternoon in the sun) down as the paths between the beds. Lots of work has gone into transforming that garden this month, and we think it’s looking brilliant.

Now, the previously mentioned wood delivery…

Once again we would like to give Event Cycle a big thank you for the wood panels that we are disassembling ready for our next set of projects!!
